The fourth day of the Australian Open will offer a really attractive duel. The host Nick Kyrgios will face the biggest favourite to win the whole tournament. Daniil Medvedev is now number two in the world rankings. How will the match play out and what to expect?
On Thursday, tennis connoisseurs can look forward to an attractive spectacle. Showman Nick Kyrgios will challenge Daniil Medvedev, the number two in the ATP world rankings, on home soil.
Medvedev is of course the big favourite, after all Kyrgios is only 113th in the rankings, but it is not a good idea to underestimate him.
The Australian Open is a tournament where Kyrgios always feels very comfortable. In Melbourne, he can put in quality performances and torment even the best opponents. The fact that he has already fought Medvedev twice and won both encounters plays into his hands.
Kyrgios passed the first round without any complications. He enjoyed his match with Liam Brody, had an excellent serve, scored 21 aces and had an 81% success rate on his first serve.
However, Medvedev didn’t admit any major complications in the first round as he defeated Henri Laaksonen. The Russian didn’t do badly on serve either, but he couldn’t come close to the numbers Kyrgios had.
Medvedev is in great form though. He is rightly in the favourite position, after all he won the US Open last season.
So what to bet on? The match record has already been mentioned. It will all depend on how Kyrgios sleeps. If he’s in the mood and in the mood, he’s capable of beating anyone. Novak Djokovic, who has never beaten him, or Rafael Nadal, who Kyrgios has managed to irritate on more than one occasion, know that.
Medvedev will be under pressure, which may affect his performance. We can expect that it will not be a three-set battle. A good bet could be on Kyrgios to play at least 15 games.
The odds of 6.49 for Kyrgios to win could then also be a great opportunity for the brave.
