Barbora Krejcikova and Marketa Vondrousova advanced to the 3rd round, the other Czechs were not so successful. Who will Krejcikova and Vondrousova meet in the 3rd round?
Krejcikova made it through to the 3rd round
The Czech favourite is very sovereign at her first Grand Slam. During 2 matches she allowed only 7 games to her opponents. Even the 2nd round was very relaxed for her. She defeated the Chinese Wang 6::2 6::3 and secured her advancement to the next stage of the tournament.
the 26-year-old Czech showed an excellent performance, she is in great form in the beginning of the season (she finished in the final in Sydney). She will play Ostapenko in the 3rd round, the first major test of her current performance. She will be the clear favourite again. Let’s see if she can turn this expectation into a qualification to the eight finals.
Tereza Martincova had a very tough opponent in the second round. She faced Giorgiova in the fight to advance to the 3rd round, a win for the 27-year-old Czech would be a surprise. The Italian won the 1st set 6::2, the match was very promising for her.
She continued her gallant performance in the next set. She quickly took the lead 5::2, the expected victory was very close. But then Martincova showed a great turn of events that made the match very dramatic.
The fate of the 2nd set was finally decided by a tiebreak. Giorgiova dominated the shortened game 7:2, despite slight difficulties, thus securing her advancement to the 3rd round.
Vondrousova also advances
Markéta Vondroušová continues her excellent performance. The Czech hope took on Samsonova in the 2nd round, which was not an easy draw at all. The Russian’s hitting style is unpleasant and often very erratic.
Vondrousova, however, handled it very well. She defeated her opponent 6::2 7::5, scored a valuable scalp of her opponent and moved on. She will face Sabalenka in the 3rd round, a very tough match awaits her. However, the Belarusian is not in sparkling form and Vondrousova is not without a chance.
Marie Bouzkova also had a very tough opponent, she has a match against Kanepi. The experienced Estonian knocked out the favourite Kerber in the 1st round and was therefore a slight favourite for the match. It was clear that nothing easy awaited the Czech tennis player. The Estonian’s aggressive game was a success. Bouzkova was not able to keep up with her opponent and after losing 2::6, 6::7 she is out of the tournament.
Machac finishes in the 2nd round
Tomas Machac was the only Czech representative who made it to the 2nd round among men. In this stage he faced another unpleasant opponent, he faced the American Cressy. Machac was the outsider of the match, he could only surprise. However, this did not happen. The Czech tennis player struggled on serve, winning 1 set was his maximum. Cressy won 6::1, 3::6, 6::1 and 7::6 and for the first time in his career advanced to the 3rd round of the Grand Slam.
