Future world number one? Young Carlos Alcaraz continues to walk the tournament
Great forehand, tremendous fight and only 18 years old. The young Carlos Alcaraz also won the second round at the Australian Open, so it’s no wonder many see him as the successor to Rafael Nadal.

In the second round of the Australian Grand Slam, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Dusan Lajovic 6:2, 6:1, 7:5. He did not lose a game on serve against the world number thirty-nine player and faced only one break point.
The previous round was even more unequivocal, with Alcaraz beating qualifier Tabil 6::2, 6::2, 6::3 and also facing only one loss of serve.
The talented Spaniard is only 18 years old. His great achievements at such an early age remind many of his compatriot and still playing tennis legend Rafael Nadal, who won his first Grand Slam title at the age of 19.
He also shares with the left-handed Mallorcan an excellent forehand which dominates the game. Another similarity is the great defensive skills.
Like his older colleague, the young Spaniard is able to harness the energy of shots played by his attacking opponent, which, combined with his superb movement, leads to breathtaking drop shots by the opponent standing at the net. It is for these shots that Nadal is best known.
Alcaraz is currently playing in tremendous form. In the autumn, he beat top ten players Tsitsipas and Berrettini. It is this tall Italian who he will face in the third round of the Australian Open.
He finished last season by winning the Next Gen Finals and is already ranked 31st in the world rankings. The great results are likely to continue given his effort and diligence.
