Vondroušová is out, only Krejčíková is left. The situation in doubles is not much better
The Czech Republic already has almost all of its representation at the Australian Open out of the way. However, Barbora Krejcikova still holds out hope, and so far she has been successful in both singles and doubles. Markéta Vondroušová, on the other hand, says goodbye to the tournament.
The Czech Republic has almost all of its representation at the Australian Open out of the way. However, Barbora Krejcikova still holds out hope, and so far she has been successful in both singles and doubles. Markéta Vondroušová, on the other hand, says goodbye to the tournament.
Markéta Vondroušová took the court on Saturday morning against Aryna Sabalenka, the number two in the WTA world rankings. But unfortunately, she couldn’t find a recipe.
The Czech tennis player managed to win the first set 6:4, but Sabalenka won the next two sets 6:3 and 6:1. The match lasted one hour and 49 minutes.
In the singles, Barbora Krejcikova is the only representative of the Czech Republic, who will play Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals.
However, Krejčíková also continues to be successful in doubles. She and her partner Katerina Siniakova defeated the pair of Monique Adamczak and Xin-Yun Han in two sets, both finishing 6:3.
Krejcikova and Siniakova will face Danielle Rose Collins and Desirae Krawczyk in the eighth round.
Lucie Hradecka still holds out Czech hopes in the mixed doubles, as she and her Ecuadorian partner Gonzalo Escobar also advanced to the eighth round.
Unfortunately, she did not transfer her success from mixed doubles to the women’s doubles, which she participated in with Maria Bouzkova.
