WRC knows its champion! Ogier wins his eighth title in a row, who is the World Constructors’ Champion?

The last round of the World Rally Championship decided not only the title among the drivers, but also which team was the most successful this season. Sébastien Ogier celebrated his eighth World Championship title with his co-driver, Julien Ingrassio!

Eight times world champion! The French racer, who currently defends the colours of the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT team, also won the last race of the season at Monza in Italy.

The result was finally decided when his teammate and biggest rival for the championship, Elfyn Evans, spun on the penultimate stage, allowing Ogier to take the win.

Ogier’s overall lead in the final standings stands at 7.3 seconds. Dani Sordo finished third, with Thierry Neuville (both Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT) fourth at Monza.

It should be noted both Frenchmen, Ogier and Ingrassia, ended their careers in style. Not only did they celebrate their eighth consecutive title together, but their team also took first place in the Constructors’ Cup! Toyota thus repeated their triumph from 2018.

“Right now I feela bit empty, as the season is always extremely exhausting,” Ogier said in a post-race interview.

“We’re giving so much. I really have to go to every member of the team and say thank you because without them we would be nothing. They are now world champions too. We are celebrating the title among the drivers, co-drivers and even among the teams,” Ogier concluded.

However, Ogier was on the short end of the stick when he broke the concrete barrier in the morning stage at the Monza circuit. The hard impact damaged the front of his car and also significantly damaged his right front wheel, which was blown off a good chunk. Luckily for him, the Pirelli tyre withstood the impact and remained sufficiently inflated.

The final top eight in the drivers’ standings is therefore as follows: 1. Ogier 230 points, 2. Evans 207, 3. Neuville 176, 4. Rovanperä 142, 5. Tänak 128, 6. Sordo 81, 7. Katsuta 78 and eighth Craig Breen with 76 points.

As we write above, the constructors’ title goes to the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT with 522 points. Behind them in second position is Hyundai, which has amassed a total of 463 points over the course of the season. After that, however, comes the points gap.

In third place in the final standings is the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team, which has 200 points. The Hyundai 2C Competition team finished last with 68 points.
