Stefanos Tsitsipas withdrew from his second round match against Alexei Popyrin due to health problems. Tsitsipas lasted just six games on court and is in trouble ahead of the season’s climax.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is in less than ideal form at the moment. After Roland Garros, he is not presenting himself confidently and losing often to players outside the top 20.
Now health complications have added to the mix. At 2:4 in the first set, Tsitsipas was forced to retire from the match against Popyrin due to pain in his right arm. The fact that Tsitsipas abandoned his match for only the second time in his career shows that this is definitely no trivial matter.
“It’s been hurting for a while. Now I felt like it was coming back and I didn’t want to risk it getting worse,” Tsitsipas said after the match.
It was an unplanned complication before the season’s climax in the Tournament of Champions. The Greek tennis player has already qualified for this final tournament.
“I have to be careful for the next tournament, which is very important for me,” said Tsitsipas, for whom the Tournament of Champions is a very prestigious event.
The Tournament of Champions will be played on November 14 in Turin, Italy. Whether Stefanos Tsitsipas will actually play in this tournament will be decided in the course of next week.
