Women’s tennis in the Czech Republic? Currently excellent and the future looks no worse, on the contrary.
Not only sisters Linda and Brenda Fruhvirth, but also Linda Noskova, Nikola Bartůňková, Lucie Havlíčková and last but not least Sara Bejlek are showing great potential.
Bejlek in particular has now really shone in Olomouc. At the ITS Cup, she reached her first final among professionals, where she faced the experienced Paula Ormaechea.
It should be mentioned that the 28-year-old Argentine was even the 59th player in the WTA rankings in 2013. She then won nine singles titles on the ITF circuit. But that did not upset the Moravian sensation.
Bejlek completely destroyed her opponent in the final. She faced two break points in the match, but she turned them both away. What’s more? She had ten of her own, took six of them, and the result is excellent.
The 15-year-old sensation defeated the Argentine in two sets twice 6:0 and there was nothing to worry about. Canara also gifted her opponent in the semi-finals.
Bejlek thus won her first professional title and this means that she is about to make a very big jump in the rankings. She is currently ranked 1004th, but will jump 556 places to 448th.
This is a huge achievement as Bejlek is still primarily focused on the junior circuit, where she is ranked 57th.
