Even without a coach Muchová is fulfilling her dream! She had Rod Laver Arena as a wallpaper on her laptop, now she will play there for the final
The WTA twitter account referred to Karolina Muchová, a native of Olomouc, as the “Comeback Queen”. Rightfully so. In the last three matches, she has shown incredible turnarounds and will rightfully fight for the final of the Australian Open.
The WTA twitter account referred to Karolina Muchová, a native of Olomouc, as the “Comeback Queen”. Rightfully so. In the last three matches, she has shown incredible turnarounds and will rightfully fight for the final of the Australian Open.
Karolína Muchová shocked the tennis world. In the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, she managed to beat the world number one Ashleigh Barty, who was playing at home and not only hasn’t lost yet this season, but hasn’t lost a single set at a grand slam.
Although Muchova plays a similar style to Barty and although they are both the same age or young, they are separated by more than 25 places in the WTA rankings. But that will change after the tournament. Already the Olomouc native has a definite move up.
The Twitter account called Karolina Muchova as “Comeback Queen”. Rightfully so! She was down 0:5 in the second set against Karolina Pliskova and turned it around in her favour. Against Mertens, she was down 0:4 in the first set, she also took it.
And she turned it around against the world number one. She lost the first set 1::6, was down 0::2 in the second, but then she started to turn the match around and won the second set 6::3, the third 6::2. In short, a fantastic performance of a modest girl from Hana.
Muchová will play her first semifinal of a Grand Slam tournament and fulfills her dream in a very difficult situation. In Australia she is without a coach, missing half of her team. Still, she’s handling it perfectly.
After the match, the native of Moravia admitted that she had Rod Laver Arena, where she played in the quarterfinals and where she will play for the final, as wallpaper on her first laptop.
“I was hoping that one day I would be able to play here or at least see this stadium. Now I’ve won a match here and advanced to the semifinals. It’s amazing!” karolína Muchová let herself be heard.
Muchova hasn’t lost once in 2021 and currently holds a great record of eight wins in a row. She only lost her first ever set at the Australian Open to Barty. In short, excellent form!
It should be mentioned that Muchová surprised Barty with her performance. “I felt I was in control of the match. I knew how I wanted to play. But after the first set my opponent picked up and I started to miss the train,” commented the world number one. “If Muchova continues like this, we will hear a lot about her,” she added.
Barty wanted to become the first Australian Open winner since 1978, it was her dream. But that dream has vanished. However, Karolina Muchova’s dream is still alive and hopefully she can fulfill it and see it through to a victorious end!
In the semi-finals, Karolína Muchová will face Jennifer Bradyová, who is only a few places ahead of the Olomouc native in the WTA rankings.
