The reboot went well! Kristýna Pliskova defeated the top three seeds in Palermo
Kristýna Pliskova has made a successful return to the tennis courts! After a five-month break in the season, the 69th player in the WTA rankings presented herself in a very good light and defeated the tournament’s number three Maria Sakkari.
The match, which started after midnight, was played by Kristýna Pliskova in a perfect way. She defeated the tournament number three and world number twenty twice in two sets 6:4 and for the seventh time in her career she scored the scalp of a player from the top twenty of the WTA ranking.
In the first set, she managed to snatch her opponent’s serve right from the start and won it without hesitation. She did not allow her opponent a single break point. Moreover, she was sovereign after the first serves, thus winning 15 out of 17 possible points.
The second set then played out somewhat differently, yet Pliskova won 76% of the points after the first serve. Compared to the first set, however, she faced three break points, all of which she was able to turn away. On the other hand, she was able to use the only one she had in the first game of the second set.
In the second round, Kristyna will meet Sara Errani, who is ranked 167th in the WTA rankings. The Czech tennis player will enter the match as a clear favourite and will try to avoid any surprises.
Another Czech tennis player will be on the court in Palermo on Tuesday. At 16:00, Markéta Vondroušová will take on Slovenia’s Kaja Juvanová. Hopefully, she will follow Kristýna Pliskova’s lead and go for the win.
