Is Leverkusen giving up on Coufal? Bayer pursues Arsenal defender but is not favourite to get him
In the last weeks, Vladimír Coufal has been discussed, especially his future. The West Ham defender has been linked with a move to Germany, where he could become a teammate of compatriots Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick. However, the arrival of another flanker is now being discussed, with Leverkusen reportedly eyeing Arsenal for reinforcements.

The West Ham defender has been linked with a move to Germany, where he could become a teammate of compatriots Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick. Bayer Leverkusen are looking for ways to pick themselves up after a poor start to the season. One option is to strengthen the defensive ranks, and there has been much talk in recent weeks that a third player from the Czech Republic could join the team.
According to English and German media, Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick were to be replaced by Vladimír Coufal, who has not spent as much time on the pitch at West Ham this season as he would probably have liked.
The fact is, however, that Coufal has not yet got back to the form he was playing in before his injury last season. In any case, his quality and experience would be an asset for Leverkusen. Together with his combative character, he would have a lot to offer.
But for the German side, the West Ham player would be quite expensive. That’s why they are now looking elsewhere for cheaper options. And according to ESPN, he has found one at Arsenal in London.
In particular, Cedric Soares, who has been at Arsenal since 2020. He does not have a fixed place at the club, but rather fills the role of a joker. In the past, the 31-year-old Portuguese has already played for Southampton or Inter Milan, for example.
According to Transfermarkt, Soares’ value is at €4 million, Coufal is €5 million more expensive. So he is the ideal choice for Leverkusen. But there is a catch. The Portuguese is also interested elsewhere.
Arsenal are determined to send Soares on loan. In addition to Leverkusen, Villarreal and Fulham are interested in the Portuguese. The favourite in this duel is the favourite. Soares would stay in London, which suits all parties.
