Lewandowski reacts to three-match penalty: it’s too long!

Robert Lewandowski is given a three-match ban by the Disciplinary Committee for a red card against Osasuna. But the Polish cannonballer does not want to accept that. “It’s too long,” he says in response to the disciplinary committee’s decision.

Robert Lewandowski was sent off in the 30th minute after two yellow cards against Osasuna. He elbowed his opponent in the head in a header, for which referee Manzano sent him to the showers.

Although Lewandowski was surprised at the sending off, the yellow card was justified. Garcia was indeed hit on the head and in these cases a yellow is automatically awarded.

But the Polish striker was of the opposite opinion. Perhaps he felt the injustice all the more because it was only the 30th minute and his team was down 0:1. He had weakened Barcelona and he knew it. However, he could have forgiven himself for the gesture he made when leaving the pitch.

Towards the bench, Lewandowski made the same gesture twice, running his nose over his finger and then pointing at the referee. The referees did not miss this action of the expelled player, and after the match they thoroughly explained everything.

It was clear from the start that Robert Lewandowski was facing a multi-match penalty, even though he was sent off after two yellow cards. The sinner himself defended himself by saying that the gesture was not directed at the referee but made towards coach Xavi.

The disciplinary committee had no sympathy for this. It handed Robert Lewandowski a three-match ban, meaning that the Polish striker will miss some of his team’s important matches. In particular, he will not play in the derby against Espanyol, Atlético Madrid and Betis.

Lewandowski did not accept the decision. “The extension of the punishment is very severe. It’s too long,” Lewandowski reacted to the punishment and again rushed to give his reasoning.

“The gesture was not directed at the referee. It was directed at the coach and everyone saw it,” concluded Robert Lewandowski.
