Tomas Vaclik has been injured and out since the end of September. However, Olympiakos reacted quickly to his condition and brought in a replacement. The thirty-three-year-old goalkeeper will be recovering for some time and they do not even try to estimate a date for his return. How does he see his future?

Tomas Vaclik’s arrival to Olympiakos last year was a big signing for the club. The Greek big club got a quality and experienced goalkeeper for free. And he didn’t disappoint in his first season.

The native of Ostrava started this season as the clear number one. But health complications made his situation much more difficult. Since the end of September, the former Sparta and Sevilla goalkeeper has been missing from his team and the national team.

Vaclik’s health deteriorated dramatically while fulfilling his national team duties. He did not finish the Nations League match against Switzerland and was substituted after the first half. However, after the match he admitted that he had been suffering from shoulder pain for a long time.

Due to the deterioration of his condition, the national goalkeeper had to undergo an operation and it was clear that he would not be seen on the pitch for some time. It was estimated that he could miss two months. But the break will probably be longer.

Unclear future?

In an interview with ČT Sport, Vaclik revealed that the club has agreed to allow him to have surgery in the Czech Republic. “Now I am in a phase where I am rehabilitating, but only passively. They have to guide my arm and help me so that the stitched muscles heal well and stay strong,” he admitted his current condition.

Currently, the Olympiakos goalkeeper believes he could be fit after the New Year. However, he did not reveal a specific date for his return. He doesn’t want to put himself under pressure by not being able to recover by that date.

The problem, however, is that his contract expires after the season. He is in contact with the club on an ongoing basis. “I am following the results. I have spoken to the manager. I have a contract there until the end of the season, so we’ll see how it goes. The main thing is to be fit and then get in shape,” Vaclik is clear.

The thirty-three-year-old goalkeeper has played 13 competitive games for the club this season, keeping two clean sheets. His team is currently third in the Greek Super League.
