Benfica Lisbon midfielder Enzo Fernández could be heading to Manchester United after just a few months in Europe. He is doing well in Portugal so far and has already impressed the prestigious English club with his performances.
the 21-year-old Argentine midfielder, who has two national team starts to his name, has only been playing for Benfica since July, when he arrived in the Portuguese capital from River Plate.
However, he immediately managed to force his way into the line-up and has also shone with three goals, two of them in the millionaire Champions League. This, of course, could not escape the attention of even more famous teams.
Manchester United, in particular, is having a resurgence under coach Erik ten Hague, which includes a rebuilding of the squad. The Dutch manager has so far shown a good nose for reinforcements. Lisandro Martínez, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony are all looking really good in their debut season at Old Trafford.
And so, it is possible that the management will bring in another reinforcement to Ten Hague in the winter, which could help to further improve an already solid midfield line. We are talking about Fernandez, for whom this would be another big step forward in his very promising football career.
The skilful midfielder could head to the English Premier League as early as this year, with Wolverhampton Wanderers showing great interest in him. The Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon eventually joined Wolves. The club received €45 million for him from Wolverhampton.
Benfica only paid €12 million for Fernández in the summer and it already seems like a perfect buy. The San Martín native’s price tag is currently around €35 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Alongside Manchester United, Barcelona are also reportedly very keen on Fernández, whose coach Xavi sees the Argentine as a successor to the ageing Sergio Busquets, who is likely to leave the Catalan club after the season.
