The 12th round of the Premier League ended 1-1. Chelsea drew with Manchester United at home after Jorginho’s goal from a penalty kick, Casemiro scored the equaliser for the Red Devils.
It was a very cautious start from both sides, with Luke Shaw trying from distance in the eighth minute, but missing the far post by a whisker. Five minutes later, Brazilian Anthony took a technical shot, but Kepa Arrizabalaga made an excellent save.
The game was starting to build up, with Raphael Varane parrying a cross from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the other end. Marcus Rashford found himself alone in front of Kepa in the 27th minute, but did not beat the Spanish goalkeeper.
Chelsea went close in the 38th minute, but Aubameyang’s slow effort just missed the left post. The good pace of the game continued, with play spilling over, and three minutes later Christian Eriksen shot inaccurately from outside the box.
The start of the second half was as cautious as the first. The most interesting moment of the third quarter was the unfortunate ankle injury of Varane. The French stopper left the field crying.
While the first half was dominated by the visitors, after the change of sides it was mainly Chelsea who held the ball. But they were not getting on the end of it. It was only in the 72nd minute that Trevoh Chalobah headed in a corner kick, but only hit the crossbar.
Four minutes later, Bruno Fernandes tried a long-range effort that Kepa headed out for a corner. In the 84th minute, Scott McTominay gifted Chelsea a free-kick when he held Armando Broja’s pass in the whitewash.
Reliable enforcer Jorginho took the ball and converted with a shot to the right post in sovereign fashion. In the fourth set minute, however, it was level. The unguarded Casemiro headed home in a good position.
The 1-1 draw leaves Chelsea in fourth place, with fifth-placed Manchester a point behind.
