Conor McGregor is a star and a legend in combat sports, even though he may not be the greatest fighter of all time. He has done a disservice to the popularity of MMA. He is mainly associated with the UFC organization, however, he once appeared in Bellator and made sure to make quite a splash.
Conor McGregor is a star and a legend in combat sports, even though he may not be the greatest fighter of all time. He has done a disservice to the popularity of MMA. He is mainly associated with the UFC organization, however, he once appeared in Bellator and made sure to create quite a stir.
The Irish fighter may be past the peak of his career, but whenever he is scheduled to fight, there is interest. He is an idol to many combat sports fans, but quite possibly a similar number of people view him negatively.
Conor McGregor made his name mainly in the UFC, where he got to after winning the title in Cage Warriors, where he defeated Ivan Buchinger among others. In the best organization in the world, he then broke one record after another.
However, he also appeared in the cage of rival Bellator. He didn’t wrestle there, but he made a splash. It was November 2017, when the second largest organization in the world presented itself in Dublin, Ireland.
McGregor’s friend and fellow gym mate Charlie Ward fought in the tournament. He managed to knock out his opponent and McGregor stormed the cage. There, among other things, he got into an altercation with respected referee Marc Goddard.
McGregor was a big troublemaker at the time, which is evident in the whole situation. Goddard was upset that Mcgregor entered the cage before the winner was officially announced. The Irishman later apologized not only to the judges, but also to his opponent Ward, whom he had not treated with the utmost respect.
The whole situation had a solidly positive impact for Bellator. In retrospect, a large number of fans watched the tournament. It’s no wonder Bellator included McGregor’s cage invasion in a video series called “Moments You Wouldn’t Believe”.
