The end of Messi at PSG? The Argentine reportedly doesn’t want to sign a new contract and will leave for free

He came for free, he leaves for free? After this season, Lionel Messi will complete his contract at PSG, which he signed last summer for two years. But according to the latest reports, he doesn’t want to stay in Paris any longer.

It was a big deal last year. Lionel Messi, one of the best footballers of all time, is leaving his beloved Barcelona, where he spent his entire career. The club was in dire financial straits and could no longer afford its biggest star.

Messi had a difficult first year in Paris. He scored only six goals in Ligue 1, was knocked out in the Champions League eighth round, drew much criticism and booing from the fans and for the first time in a long time did not make the Ballon d’Or nomination.

In his second season, however, everything seems to have fallen into place. Messi and Neymar are charming again, the Argentine already has a record of 6+8 and is enjoying football again. But it seems that even that won’t keep him at PSG.

Reportedly, Messi is clear that he will not renew his contract in Paris and will not play for PSG next season, according to Spanish journalist Miquel Blázquez from Beteve.

If the Argentine does indeed not continue in the French capital, what move could follow? The logical option is to return home to Barcelona. By selling off half of the club, the Blaugranas have raised quite a bit of money and are probably out of the woods for at least the next few years.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has let it be known that he hopes Messi’s story at Barcelona will continue. And would coach Xavi take back his former teammate?

“Yes, but at the moment he is under contract with another club, so it’s impossible,” Xavi replied. “We will see in the future, ” the coach filled the fans with optimism.
