Qualification for the Champions League: Slavia won in Iceland, Sparta fell in the last minute
The two Czech teams have one last step to take to reach the group stage of the Champions League. Their opening matches are already over, but Slavia is certainly happier, as they are close to an interesting reward.
The two Czech teams have one last step to take to reach the group stage of the Champions League. Their opening matches are already over, but Slavia is certainly happier, as they are close to an interesting reward.
First up was Sparta Prague. The latter hosted, with an attendance of over 1,500 fans, AS Rome at Letná, who were the big favourites.
But Sparta’s players did not give up and fought. They even took the lead in the 51st minute when Lucie Martínková took advantage of a mistake in the midfield and overcame the Italian goalkeeper.
However, AS Rome did not plan to return empty-handed. In the 78th minute, Elisa Bartoli equalized after a corner kick. And just when it looked like the match would end in a draw, the Italians struck a second time.
Emilie Haavi shot from an angle under the crossbar and goalkeeper Patricia Chládeková was unable to reach the ball. The Spartans will have to win the rematch if they want to advance.
The Slavs are happier. They played their opening match in Iceland against Celk Valur, who were the slight favourites. The match was quite even, but in the end the Czechs were the winners.
The only goal of the match was scored by Tereza Kožárová in the 26th minute, which brought the Sešivans closer to the group stage and the CZK 10 million prize for advancing.
