It was a shock when Barcelona announced that due to league rules they would not be able to extend the contract of Lionel Messi, who thus became a free agent. So immediately European clubs started making offers, with the one from PSG winning out.
At the French club, Messi currently forms an attacking trio with Neymar and Mbappé. Even though he is doing very well in his new position, many fans would rather see Messi in a Barcelona jersey.
That could soon come true. The Catalan club’s management is in talks with Lionel Messi about his possible return. Moreover, coach Xavi, who is one of the main figures in the negotiations, is also in favour of this scenario.
It is clear that the negotiations will not be easy. Barcelona wants to create the best possible conditions for its legend. That is why, if Messi were to sign, it would bring other high-profile reinforcements to the Camp Nou.
Specifically, these would be reinforcements at right-back and defensive midfielder. Since Messi would be starting on the right wing, Barcelona’s goal is to make Messi as comfortable as possible on the pitch.
There is currently speculation about Ruben Neves or Martin Zubimendi at defensive midfielder. The biggest candidate for right-back is Trent Alexander-Arnold.
This too could prompt Messi to move back to Camp Nou. Another positive is the presence of Robert Lewandowski, who could get along with the Argentine footballer on the pitch.
