There probably isn’t a footballer in the world right now who fills the meme pages more and is the subject of constant ridicule from fans. Harry Maguire for the England national team has once again shown an incomprehensible short circuit.
The start of the season has not gone well for Maguire. The Manchester United captain started the first two Premier League matches in the starting line-up, both of which his team lost with a score of 1::6.
Coach Erik ten Hag put him on the bench and since then the Red Devils started to thrive and without Maguire they scored four wins in a row. When the lanky stopper got another chance in the Europa League against Real Sociedad, it was another United loss. The Red Devils won their next group game again without Maguire at Sheriff.
Maguire wanted to fix his taste in the England national team, where he has always had a lot of confidence in coach Gareth Southgate. But even that didn’t go to plan. The Three Lions lost 0-1 to Italy and were relegated from the Elite Group of the Nations League.
It is the fifth relegation of Maguire’s career. It is an unflattering record, no other player has ever experienced so many relegations.
And against Italy, he didn’t perform well again. First, he lost a header to Scamacca, but the ball bounced off the crossbar and back to Maguire. But instead of kicking it as far as he could, he decided to kick it away for a corner, much to the dismay of his teammates. Eric Dier in particular was quite angry with his teammate.
The video immediately went viral on the internet and Maguire is once again the laughing stock of all fans.
The English stopper has started four games in the starting lineup this season, each time his team lost.
