Octagon has caught an interesting horse! Thirty-five-year-old John Hathaway is returning to MMA and although he still belongs to the UFC? the organization has agreed to give him a fight in the Octagon. If he manages to win, he’ll likely return to it.
John Hathaway, known as the Hitman, has an MMA record of 17 to 2. He has been fighting professionally since 2006, however his last fight was in 2014. That’s when he fell to Kim Hyun Dong and took a long layoff.
He decided to make a comeback some time ago, however, after all this time he had to train hard to be able to return to the sport. Now he feels ready and will have a fight soon.
He’s still under contract with the UFC, but they have agreed to let him fight in the Octagon. “They didn’t really know what to do with me. They said, ‘Obviously we don’t feel like we can just shove you back in because we don’t know what your level is now that you’ve been out for so long.
We’d like you to go and do some competition somewhere else and then we’ll see what you look like and how you behave. I think if I perform well and look good, they’ll pick me again.
OKTAGON is great. They’re giving me a chance. They have some good guys in their welter. I’m going to want to fight them and if I do well against them, then I’ll go back to the UFC and see what I can do there,” he said in an interview with MMA Junkie.
His fight is expected to happen in Germany at Oktagon 36. The opponent is not yet known, but we will definitely find out soon as it is inexorably approaching.
