UFC 279 is over. The main event finally featured Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson, two legends and past UFC greats. They both seem to be past their prime, but it was still going to be an attractive show. And indeed it was delivered.
In the fourth round, however, Diaz ended the fight by knocking Ferguson out with a great and quick guillotine hold. And because this was a fight between two greats, it was highly and keenly watched by perhaps the entire MMA community.
This, of course, brought a huge wave of various reactions from current and former UFC stars or other fighters. ” Nate Diaz is a free man! Congratulations.”
Ngannou was reacting to the fact that Diaz’s UFC contract has expired and he can now do whatever he wants. Diaz revealed that he now plans to break into other sports, but he plans to return to the UFC one day.
This amused the likes of Dustin Poirier, who joked on Twitter about winning Olympic precious metals. And the precious Olympic metal was won by Henry Cejudo when he won gold to later become a two-time UFC champion.
It was Cejudo who noted that when Diaz made his UFC debut (June 2007), he hadn’t even won an Olympic medal. “I was Triple ZERO,” joked the man nicknamed Triple C. “That’s how long Nate Diaz has been a combat sports legend,” he added.
YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul, who has been looking to fight Diaz for a while, also commented on the fight. “Nate Diaz is a ku**v legend and he would beat Khamzat,” Paul is clear. A tribute to both Diaz and Ferguson was then given by lightweight leader Charles Oliveira.
The legendary Frank Mir, who newer MMA fans may know from his role as a foreign commentator for the Octagon, also came out with a statement.
And what about Diaz’s rival Conor McGregor?
