On Tuesday 13 September, Olympique Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt played the second round of the Champions League group stage. This match was dominated by the visitors from Germany, and apart from the football there was also a lot of dangerous activity from the fans.

Two games and still without a single point – that’s Olympique Marseille’s record in the Champions League group stage, and although they’re on a roll in domestic competition, they’re not doing too well in Europe so far.

In the first match of the group stage, Marseille lost 0:2 to Tottenham, and did not score a goal in the following match against Frankfurt (0:1). Sporting Lisbon, who have been successful in both of their matches and have not scored yet, are leading Group D.

In the Marseille vs. Frankfurt match, the home team had more time on the ball, but the visitors created more shooting attempts. Overall, there were plenty of decent chances and the fans in the stadium were certainly not bored by the football.

However, the pitch wasn’t the only place where things were happening. In the stands, fans of both camps got into it with pyrotechnics, which you can see for yourself in the video below.

On the left side you can see the fans of the visiting team, while the stand behind the goal belongs to Olympique Marseille supporters.

But in addition to that, supporters of both teams clashed the night before, when they fought in the streets of the French city.

The police had to intervene and subsequently arrested several fans. Objectively, we must also note that this simply has nothing to do with football anymore. It should be noted, this video is, according to fans in the comments, filmed after the event itself and is the final escape of the Marseille hooligans from the police.

Marseille will play their next Champions League group stage match on 4 October when Sporting Lisbon come to the Stade Vélodrome. Eintracht Frankfurt will play their game against Tottenham on the same day, also at home.
