Twenty-six-year-old midfielder Konrad Laimer could not have imagined a better ending for Leipzig, winning the German Cup and finishing a fine third in the Bundesliga. After the end of his contract, he decided to take up an offer from champions Bayern, with whom he will have the highest goals.
Konrad Laimer is a perfect example of the excellent work Red Bull does in football. The RB Salzburg graduate first showed his worth on loan at partner Liefering and then made his way into the A-team.
However, even that was too small for him in the end and since the 2017/18 season Laimer has been a RB Leipzig player. He spent a wonderful seven seasons there, but now their paths have definitely parted.
The twenty-six-year-old midfielder was coming to the end of his contract at the club and there was no extension, although the club understandably tried. So it was certain that he would be a free agent from the summer.
Laimer was finishing third with Leipzig and knew before the final match of the German Cup that he was about to make his last appearance in the jersey he had worn for many years. Leipzig beat Frankfurt and he couldn’t have asked for a better ending.
There was speculation about where he would go, but now it is clear. Laimer is now a player of the champions Bayern Munich, with whom he will want to win not only the Bundesliga, but also the Champions League.
“It’s a dream come true. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I am ready to give everything for the club and the fans. Bayern always has the highest goals – just like me. I’m in the right place here,” he said in an interview with the club’s website.
Laimer has signed a contract with Bayern until the summer of 2027 and the fans are universally happy with his arrival. It’s hard not to be, a free signing like that is something you don’t see.
