Big boost for Galatasaray! The club brought in Mertens, Icardi, Torreira and Mata. But it’s not over
The Turkish team Galatasaray has been among the elite for many years, but last season the fans could not be satisfied with the performances and results of their players. And so the club decided to make a radical reinforcement, which surprised perhaps every football fan.
The Turkish team Galatasaray has been among the elite for many years, but last season the fans could not be satisfied with the performances and results of their players. And so the club decided to make a radical reinforcement, which surprised perhaps every football fan.
Galatasaray won the last title in the 2018/19 season with 69 points. The following season, the team from the capital finished sixth, and then came the improvement, the title slipped away, although the points score was the same as the winner Besiktas.
However, the past season did not go well at all and the thirteenth position really angered the fans. So it was certain that reinforcements were in order. However, this was certainly not expected.
Within Turkey came Mostafa Mohamed, who immediately went on loan to Nantes, Abdülkerim Bardakci and Kazımcan Karataş. For the not-so-interested fan, not very well-known names. But then came the reinforcements from abroad.
Sérgio Oliveira came from Porto, Haris Seferovic from rival Benfica. Léo Dubois was bought from Lyon and Fredrik Midtsjø from Alkmaar. But last but not least came the introduction of truly world-class reinforcements.
From Arsenal came Lucas Torreira, Dries Mertens as a free agent and on the last day Mauro Icardi and Juan Mata! That’s already a reinforcement of which a more prestigious team would not be ashamed. To them in also the talented Yusuf Demir and Mathias Ross Jensen.
How much money could this reinforcement have cost? We’d rather not even speculate on that, as buying is one thing, but to tighten such a colossus on wages will certainly not be something enviable. However, the money was raised by the club from a lucrative land sale.
