Manchester United won the match at Southampton and followed up the triumph against Liverpool with a 1:0 victory. The home side were better at times and almost equalised acrobatically in the setup. However, the Red Devils take all three points from this match.
The start of the match was even, with hints of both sides, but no dangerous finishes. In the 19th minute the visitors had a sure chance, but the home defence managed to block the shots four times.
On the other side, Che Adams was the first to threaten, but his header narrowly missed David de Gea’s goal. Twenty-year-old stopper Armel Bella-Kotchap had the opening goal in the 31st minute, but he too missed by a whisker.
At the end of the first half, Marcus Rashford’s shot was blocked and it was a fair goalless draw.
After the change of sides, Scott McTominay ran in behind the defence, but the home goalkeeper dealt with his shot from a volley. Two minutes later, Anthony Elanga was on his way to the goal, but was stopped by an excellent slide by Bella-Kotchap.
In the 55th minute, it worked. Diogo Dalot found Bruno Fernandes with a grounded centre, who placed the ball precisely to the near post to complete the combination.
But Southampton were not going to give in. In the 66th minute, Adams fought his way to a header, but de Gea flashed an excellent save. In the 80th minute, Manchester United’s new signing Casemiro also got into the game and should have helped defend the narrow win.
However, Sékou Mara came close to a wonderful equaliser in stoppage time, but his scissors were stopped by Dalot. Manchester took three points for the 1-0 win and jumped to provisional sixth position in the Premier League table.
