The 3rd round of La Liga is over and it didn’t bring too many surprises. The only interesting thing was the loss of Sevilla, who are struggling at the start of the new season. Let’s take a look at the most important things that happened in Spanish football.
Real Betis
This time we’ll take it from the south, starting in Andalusia. Real Betis impressed with their “party” before the match with Osasuna. Before the games at the Benito Villamarín, the song “Stereo Love” is traditionally played, but this time the Verdiblancos took it up a notch.
In a darkened stadium, a violinist in a Betis jersey played the song on the pitch, while fans added to the atmosphere with their mobile phone torches. When the chorus came on, it was a huge roar.
Moreover, Betis won 1: 0 and have full points after three rounds. With nine points, they are now second in the table, just one point behind Real Madrid.
Sevilla
On the other side of Sevilla, there is definitely no appetite for a party. Sevilla have had a tragic start to the season, first losing to Osasuna, then drawing at home to newcomer Valladolid and most recently losing 1-2 to another newcomer Almería.
And sporting director Monchi is slowly running out of patience. After the shameful loss to the newcomer, he banished the players in front of the fans, to whom he apologised and asked for patience. Although he heard some harsh words, most of the supporters expressed their support and sang the national anthem in front of the players.
Real Madrid
The defending champion once again showed its premier discipline – deciding games in the final minutes. At Espanyol’s ground, Vinícius opened the scoring in the first 15 minutes, only for Joselu to equalise just before half-time.
Real Madrid pressed throughout the second half, but the goal never came. It was only in the 88th minute that Rodrygo sent a millimetre-accurate centre into the box from the left wing, where none other than Karim Benzema was waiting for him and sent the ball into the net with a volley.
In the 96th minute, goalkeeper Lecomte brought down Ceballos in the big whitewash and saw a red card. The stopper and captain, Cabrera, stepped up to the plate and was beaten by Benzema from a direct kick. Los Blancos, due to the rebuilding of the Santiago Bernabeu, played their first three league games away, managed to win all of them and are basking at the top of the table with nine points and a 9-3 record.
Barcelona
Barcelona didn’t falter either, beating Real Valladolid 4: 0. The Culés first sent out two warnings when Lewandowski hit the bar with a header in the 11th minute and Dembélé almost cut the left-hand post in half with a clutch shot in the 22nd minute.
In the 24th minute, however, Camp Nou was up to the task when Raphin’s centre at the back post was tapped into the net by Lewandowski. Just before half-time, Dembélé headed the ball into the box and found a free Pedri on the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
In the 64th minute, an active Dembélé pushed the ball into the box to Lewandowski, who cleared the ball to the back post. In the 92nd minute, Lewandowski fired the ball into the crossbar from just outside the box, but the ball rebounded to Sergi Roberto, who finished for the final 4:0.
