Manchester United managed to finish the fifth round of the Premier League with a 1: 0 win at Leicester. Jadon Sancho scored the only goal of the match in the first half and the home side could not answer.
The start was very cautious from both sides, only in the 11th minute Christian Eriksen took a shot, but just missed the near post. At the other end, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall shot but David de Gea stopped his long-range effort.
In the 23rd minute, the away fans celebrated. The home defence made a mistake in positioning, failing to keep out the onrushing Jadon Sancho, who had just enough time to get past the goalkeeper.
Eriksen could have increased the lead immediately afterwards, but he headed into Danny Ward’s gloves. Leicester’s performance confirmed that they are in a crisis of play and results. In his rare opportunity, Harvey Barnes shot over.
After a change of sides, James Maddison shot accurately to the right post from a direct kick, but de Gea made an excellent save to clear the ball. The Foxes began to outplay their opponents, but things were creaking in the final stages.
It wasn’t until the 70th minute that Maddison struck again from a direct kick, this time hitting the red wall. In the 82nd, substitute Cristiano Ronaldo could have put the Red Devils at ease going into the final whistle, but he scissors just past the back post.
Leicester were almost rewarded in stoppage time, but James Justin took a hasty shot at a great chance and overshot. The Foxes remain on a single point after the fifth round, while Manchester United won for the third time in a row.
