Manchester United are drowning in a major crisis. And the situation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo is not helping matters. One of the best footballers in history is absent in spirit and would prefer to disappear from Old Trafford.
However, he still has great quality and, moreover, Manchester United have little choice in attack. That’s why the Portuguese started against Brentford in the starting line-up, even though he missed almost the entire summer training.
And so, ahead of Monday’s showpiece against rivals Liverpool, the question is what kind of line-up the Hag will put together. And perhaps surprising advice came from Ronaldo’s former teammate.
“I wouldn’t line up against Liverpool with Cristiano Ronaldo or Marcus Rashford,” legendary striker Wayne Rooney told the Times.
“If I was in the position of that Hague, my main concern would be to get energy on the pitch. United’s inability to bring in a top striker meant they had to rely on Ronaldo against Brentford, even though he didn’t train much with the team,” Rooney explained.
“Cristiano needs to catch up on fitness, Ten Hag needs energy in the team and that may mean sitting Ronaldo,” says United’s record goalscorer.
Manchester United’s duel with Liverpool is scheduled for Monday at 9pm. Will the Hag listen to the club icon and put possibly the best player in history on the bench?
