Great! Viktoria Plzeň was down 0:1 at half-time of the Champions League play-off rematch with Karabakh, but Jan Kopic equalised in the second half after a goalkeeping error.
In the first match we did not see a goal, Viktoria was mainly supported by goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk. After the draw in Azerbaijan, Plzeň entered the rematch in a very promising position.
And it showed that it was one step away from the dream Champions League right from the start. Viktoria entered the match with great desire and great vigour, with centres flying into the penalty area, and Plzeň tried to threaten the Karabakh goalkeeper, but no clear-cut chances came.
Gradually, the visitors blunted Pilsen’s pressure, until they became calm and went on the offensive. And in the 38th minute they struck. Mosquera cleared the ball into the net, but the unmarked Filip Ozobic found the ball on the whitewash, worked the ball onto his chest and sent Karabakh into the lead with a beautiful volley.
Coach Michal Bílek made one change in the second half, replacing Jan Sýkora with striker Jan Kliment. And it bore fruit.
In the 58th minute, goalkeeper Mahammadaliyev wanted to go for Jemelka’s cross on the border of the big white space, but he missed the ball, it bounced from the chum to Jan Kopic, who very quickly overcame everything in his way and equalized at 1:1.
The Doosan Arena erupted in joy and everything is now open.
