Bundesliga team performance: after winning the Europa League, Frankfurt wants to shine on the domestic scene. Can it do it?

Eintracht Frankfurt has had an interesting season. In the league, it has not been very successful, but it has made up for it in Europe, where it has had a great run and dominated the Europa League. As a result, they will play in the Champions League. However, he will also want to fight to repair his reputation in domestic competition.

The management team

Coach Oliver Glasner has been in charge of Frankfurt since the start of last season. Before that, he coached at Wolfsburg, where he did not do badly. He brought two assistants with him. In his first season, he proved his quality when Eintracht won the Europa League under his guidance.

But in the league, Hessen didn’t do so well. Glasner will want to change that in the new season. Under him, Frankfurt play one of the most attractive styles not only in the Bundesliga, but quite possibly in the whole of Europe.

While Glasner has a wide squad at his disposal, the skeleton of the team is more or less clearly defined. There are no major changes in the starting line-ups.

Goalkeeper

One of the certainties in Frankfurt is the number one position. Kevin Trapp is one of the club’s icons and one of the best goalkeepers in Germany. He is regularly nominated for the national team, but cannot break into goal because of the qualities of the renowned Manuel Neuer.

Although Eintracht have replacements for Trapp, it can’t be said that any of the backup goalkeepers are of great quality. Coach Glasner is simply playing his cards right here.

Defence

Three stoppers, two wing-backs with great offensive qualities and appetites. This is exactly the recipe Glasner uses and which won him the Europa League. The stopper trio is mostly Almamy Touré, Evan Ndicka and Tuta. In the event that any of this trio drops out, Eintracht have quality understudies at their disposal.

As far as the flanks are concerned, Filip Kostic reigns supreme on the left, with a number of European clubs interested in him. However, the Serbian will most likely stay in Hesse. On the right, we will see the speedy Ansgar Knauff, who is a guest here from Dortmund, on the run later this season.

Backup

Glasner uses a formation in which he relies on two offensive midfielders to complement the top striker. The classic central midfielders are played regularly by the offensively minded Daichi Kamada and the responsible Djibril Sow. However, the defensive midfield and defence will be reinforced by veteran Makoto Hasebe, while Sebastian Rode and Jakic can also be relied upon.

The more offensive-minded duo will be provided by new signing Mario Götze and stable member of the starting eleven Jesper Lindström. Kamada, however, was playing here until Götze’s arrival, but will now move down the ranks. However, it can be expected that Glasner will use the players depending on the opponent.

Jens Peter Hauge will be able to revive the game from the bench.

Attack

There will probably still be a fight for the spike striker position. Last season, Rafael Borré in particular played there and while he put in quality performances, his productivity was not the most dazzling. That’s also why Frankfurt brought in Lucas Alario from Leverkusen. He has experience and scoring goals is not a problem for him.

In midfield, Goncalo Paciencia and new arrival Randal Kolo Muani will be waiting for a chance.
