For many, this is a very surprising transfer. Robert Lewandowski is leaving Bayern Munich, with whom he has enjoyed much success, and moving to Barcelona. Why has the Polish striker decided to make the switch?
Robert Lewandowski could have been happy in Munich. With Bayern, he reigned supreme in the Bundesliga, and he also managed to win the Champions League with the club. Moreover, the Bavarian giant is still an ambitious team with the highest goals in Europe.
Barcelona is in a completely different situation. It is in financial crisis and undergoing a generational change. Last season, in which they finished second in the league, was seen as a success. Despite this, the Polish striker has opted for this transfer.
As Lewandowski himself revealed in an interview, the main reason for leaving was the desire to try another competition. “I wanted to play in a league other than the Bundesliga. I made this decision a long time ago, but only now have I decided to take this step,” Robert Lewandowski told Bild.
Spain attracted him not only from a football point of view. “I wanted to live somewhere else, to get to know a new place with my family. My daughter Klara is going to school next year, so we had to make this decision. It would never have been possible again,” explains the Polish cannon player.
But as he adds, it was not easy to decide to make the move. “It was the hardest decision of my life, ” concludes Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona are getting some very good reinforcements. This is an extremely effective striker, which the Catalan club is lacking after the departures of Suárez and Messi. Lewandowski could at least partially fill the place left by these club legends.
