Ronaldo is still looking for an engagement in vain. Why are the big European clubs keeping their hands off him?
Cristiano Ronaldo has been experiencing a bump into harsh reality in recent days. Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League, so the star Portuguese has no plans to stay at the club. However, he has been looking for a new deal in vain so far as he has only received rejections from European big clubs.
It is clear that even now Cristiano Ronaldo can only choose from the offers, moreover, when the information about his plans to leave Manchester became public. However, the Portuguese has high expectations and so only a move to a big club is out of the question.
However, he hasn’t been very successful in his negotiations with them so far, having only received rejections from them. Why is that?
As it is known, in the event of a transfer, Ronaldo would head to a club that will be playing the Champions League this season. It won’t be just any club, however, but one that can win the whole competition. It just fits Ronaldo’s set-up and his ambitions.
So we must look for a potential suitor only among the favourites and in the top five leagues.
Spain
Initially, a return to Spain looked the most hopeful. Ronaldo could return to Real Madrid, where he made the biggest achievements of his career, however, this transfer would not make much sense.
Karim Benzema made a big impact in Madrid last season and the squad will be built around him for this season. Moreover, the young Vinicius has been performing brilliantly on the wing, so the Portuguese would be more of a liability for Real now.
At one point, a transfer to Atlético Madrid also looked close. However, Atlético is a big rival of Real and so Ronaldo would have to work hard to win fans to his side. Then again, Ronaldo’s game doesn’t really go well with coach Simeone’s philosophy of a secure defence based on an impenetrable defence.
The big surprise then would be Ronaldo’s departure to Barcelona. According to some reports, however, the parties have indeed discussed this transfer. However, all the negotiations seem to have come to nothing with the purchase of Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona thus already have a striker with a flair for goals and may not realise this transfer. But given the rivalry between Barcelona and Real, this transfer would be seen as a last resort for Barcelona officials.
England
Will Ronaldo stay in the Isles and continue playing Premier League football? In the case of a transfer, it’s not very realistic yet. If we take it one step at a time, Manchester City are out of the game. For one thing, they are United’s rivals, and secondly, the club signed Erling Haaland in attack, so they have no interest in Ronaldo.
Similarly for Liverpool, who are seen as Manchester United’s hated rival. The Portuguese would not even fit into the demanding style of play that the team under Jürgen Klopp presents. Moreover, Ronaldo would have to take young players like Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota out of the lineup. So for Liverpool, buying Ronaldo would not make sense conceptually.
One still has to pause at Chelsea, with whom Ronaldo’s representatives have also held talks. However, coach Thomas Tuchel was against the transfer and saw more negatives in the transfer. Like Lukaku, Ronaldo, in his opinion, would not fit into the style of play he is trying to present at Stamford Bridge. Fearing that he would soon have to deal with his departure, he preferred to engage the younger Sterling with the club’s management.
France
Out of the French Ligue 1, only PSG comes into consideration. But it has such a packed squad with a very tight budget that Ronaldo’s arrival could be rather counterproductive. The team has Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in attack. Finding room for another star player in this lineup is virtually impossible.
Italy
A return to Juventus is probably not on the agenda. Ronaldo left here for Manchester United just a year ago and although he has made a number of successes in Italy, some Juventus representatives have expressed that they would no longer be interested in Ronaldo.
Germany
Ronaldo’s representatives have also offered their client to Bayern Munich. Despite Lewandowski’s departure to Barcelona, Bayern are not interested in Ronaldo. And it’s similar to many other clubs, buying the Portuguese doesn’t fit into the club’s philosophy, as Oliver Kahn stated.
Finding a club will be a big ask for Ronaldo. At thirty-seven years old, he does not represent any future for a buyer, on the contrary, they will have to spend a lot of money to buy and pay him. More and more teams are now going through a generational change and building on younger players. It will be increasingly difficult for Ronaldo to establish himself.
