As expected, Slavia won the first match of the second round of the Conference Europa League, 4:0 against St. Joseph’s. What did the match show towards the rematch, which is scheduled for next Thursday?
Soro’s league
Few Slavs players have had as successful an entry into the cups as Yira Sor. In the opening seven games of the Conference Europa League, he scored eight times and added three assists. He has scored goals against all opponents so far, Feyenoord, Linz, Fenerbahce and St. Joseph’s.
On Thursday, he scored the most important goals of the game, the first two. In both he confirmed his killer finish, first scoring from a volley against the crossbar, then opting for a placed shot to the back post. He’s easily doing well in the cups and will be the number one striker for them.
The two faces of Tiehi
Slavia, somewhat surprisingly, started with a very defensive-minded midfield of Ibrahim Traoré, Tomas Holes, Christ Tiehi and especially the third named was very much in action. He was not very good in the end, he burned two really big chances. The first one with his foot from a volley, the second one with his head.
On the other hand, he probably gave the most creative performance of the midfielders. He was clearly enjoying the game, he wasn’t afraid to go for a tackle or drag the ball, but he especially impressed with two nice passes through the defence. He showed that he is definitely not a pure six, but rather an eight. At least mentally.
The new right side is coming on
The right side of Slavia’s lineup was sharpened by David Douděra and Moses Usor. The reinforcements from Mladá Boleslav and the talent from the B-team were tearing the opponents apart, mainly because of their speed. Douděra’s forays behind the defence were effective, with Usor helping him pull defenders away with his movement on several occasions.
The Nigerian winger, among others, assisted on the second goal. Above all, he was not afraid to shoot, which was a big problem for Slavia in the spring part of last season. Everyone left the responsibility to others, which is not the case with Usor. He doesn’t lack confidence and his left foot can shoot from any position.
