Arrogant Grealish? Manchester City player unnecessarily shoves Mexican icon in a preliminary match
Last year he came as a big star from Aston Villa, but Jack Grealish will probably want to forget his first season in a Manchester City jersey quickly from an individual point of view. He was also seen in Thursday’s friendly, but not in a positive light.
Last year he came as a big star from Aston Villa, but Jack Grealish will probably want to forget his first season in a Manchester City jersey quickly from an individual point of view. He was also seen in Thursday’s friendly, but not in a positive light.
Club América’s clash with Manchester City at the Houston Stadium was the first test for the Citizens in this year’s preparations. Reinforcement Julian Alvárez was in the lineup, while Norwegian cannonballer Erling Haaland was on the bench.
For the Mexican side, the reciprocal match was a big event and they almost scored in the 23rd minute after a mistake by one of their defenders. The ball was taken by Jack Grealish, but the action did not end in a goal.
Grealish fell down in the whitewash in a duel with a defending player and Ochoa had to jump over to prevent the English winger from tripping him. At the same time, Grealish was demanding a penalty, which Ochoa clearly denied and lifted the Citizens star.
The 26-year-old England international first swung and when he was back on his feet he began shoving the Mexican goalkeeping icon. The 2014 World Cup hero for the Mexican national team wasn’t having any of it and his teammates stood up for him.
The whole situation eventually went without yellow cards, although Grealish in particular reacted with unnecessary irritation and aggression. Ochoa was substituted nine minutes after the incident, replaced by Óscar Francisco Jiménez.
The 2-1 scoreline was born in the last fifteen minutes of the first half. Kevin de Bruyne sent the favourites into the lead after half an hour of play, Henry Martín equalised in the 43rd minute, but de Bruyne restored Manchester’s lead in stoppage time.
