Rooney has become a Derby hero
Wayne Rooney has had a phenomenal career. He has won everything he could at Manchester United, breaking many records. He has also thrived in the national team. He spent the end of his career at Everton, where he started, D.C. United and then finished it at Derby.
It was at Derby that he took up the coaching craft immediately after the end of his career and although it was not easy, he did well. Moreover, he showed tremendous loyalty when he turned down Everton’s offer to try to save Derby in the Second Division.
The rescue failed, but but for the deduction of points, Rooney’s charges might well have played mid-table. And it has to be said that because of the club’s financial situation, it had nowhere near the players and budget that would have been adequate for League Two.
Rooney even had to pay the players’ wages out of his own pocket, showing in short the bulldog nature he was famous for on the pitch as a player. He will not be forgotten at Derby.
He could have gone to the Premier League, but he’s going to the MLS
As already mentioned, Rooney could have coached in the famous Premier League in peace, and at his Everton, only to turn down the offer at the time. He didn’t want to leave Derby even after relegation, but for various reasons he had to do so.
And what next? At the age of 36, he can go overseas to gain experience, where he has already worked as a player. And to a club he already knows well, D.C. United.
According to American journalists, everything is already a done deal, just waiting for the official announcement. Fabrizio Romano also has the same information from his overseas colleagues.
