It was unpleasant news for Bayern, but it happened. Niklas Süle is headed for his arch rival Borussia Dortmund for free. He was a key player of the Bavarian team, who is also a regular member of the national team. Why did he make this decision?

Tall, fast, good distribution, good overview of the game, practically no weaknesses and still only 26 years old. Niklas Süle has risen to become one of the world’s leading defenders after his transfer from Hoffenheim to Bayern Munich.

He was a key figure in the Bavarian side. Once he was healthy, he could not be missing from the starting line-up. He also became a permanent fixture in the German national team. He often talked about the fact that he would like to play in the Premier League.

But he will have to wait a while for that. Already in February, just a few months before the end of his contract at Bayern, he agreed on a new engagement with his main rival, Borussia Dortmund.

It was quite a big slap in the face for Bayern. After all, it’s not often that an important player heads to Dortmund. Borussia, on the other hand, can celebrate. The defence has been a big problem for them for a long time and now they’ve managed to step up in a big way. And not just with the arrival of Süle.

And why did the German defender decide to do so? “Despite all my sporting achievements, I have not always received the respect I think I deserve. In my talks with BVB, I was always and credibly shown this,” Bulinews quotes him as saying.

Süle spent five years at Bayern, won five titles, was an important figure in winning the Champions League winners’ trophy and collected many other trophies overall. He played more than 170 games for the club.

“I feel a real connection between my ambitions and those of the club. The chance that we will succeed excites me. I can’t wait for next season. I’m especially looking forward to the home games. I played here as a rival and I always looked forward to the games because of the fans,” added the German defender.
