The first 7 days of the most interesting month of the year in terms of transfers have already passed. However, Manchester United have so far only officially signed outside midfielder Tyrell Malacia. Then Cristiano Ronaldo could join the ranks of departing players, who still hasn’t arrived for the team training already underway. His possible departure will thus significantly increase the chances of Antony’s transfer from Ajax.

The situation surrounding Ronaldo is unclear, but a rather interesting view on the matter was brought by former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara. “Cristiano Ronaldo was their top scorer last season. He held the club up at important moments. It’s a shame they let him leave. He has the right to say: ‘The future of Manchester United looks bleak and I want to win trophies!'”

There was first speculation of a move to Bayern Munich, where he could replace the departed Robert Lewandowski, but that was clearly denied by Oliver Kahn, with the Portuguese cannonballer not a prospect for the club.

With fresh information about a possible transfer of Ronaldo came Football Insider, according to which Chelsea are ready to offer £14 million for the top scorer in Champions League history.

They are also talking about a potential transfer of Raheem Sterling, for whom the Blues are offering Manchester City £45 million. In this case, however, negotiations appear to be much further advanced as all parties could agree by the end of this week.

A chance for Antony?

The Ajax winger, who has been talked about in the English media for some time now, could benefit a lot from this whole situation as he is a big favourite of Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch coach has a number of great wingers at Old Trafford such as Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and the recently shining Anthony Elanga. Their favourite side, however, is the left when it comes to right-backs 100% of the time.

As for the left winger, the Hag can use Amad Diallo, but he is yet to show his qualities in the top team. So it makes sense that the 52-year-old coach is going to bring in a quality player to fit into his system.

Antony therefore seems to be a great choice and according to Goal, discussions are already taking place between the clubs. However, Manchester United are only offering €60 million, €20 less than Ajax’s idea.

It is Ronaldo’s departure that could help this transfer significantly, with only Anthony Martial remaining as an alternative at Old Trafford to spearhead the move. At the moment it would be great to have Mason Greenwood available, but he’s not exactly being double counted on after his predicament.

Of course, Elanga and Rashford can also play in the centre of the attack, so the Hag wouldn’t necessarily need to buy a classic striker and might prefer Antony.

The fast-footed Brazilian has had a very successful season at Ajax, when he and his teammates enjoyed two league titles and one cup victory. He then managed to win the Olympics with Brazil, assisting Malcom’s winning goal in the final match against Spain.

In total, Antony played 79 games for Ajax, during which he managed to score 22 times and assisted another 20 goals.
