Will the French league see a revival? Lyon has a new owner. I don’t like models like PSG, we can compete with them financially, he says

Ligue 1 is a specific competition. Talented players regularly leave it for the best clubs in the world. They rarely stay in the competition. Moreover, the league has been dominated in recent years by one club in particular, which has no competition financially or in terms of play. That could soon change, however. Great news for French football? Quite possibly. Of course, this will be best assessed in time, but there is at least some hope. There could be an interesting revival in Ligue 1.

PSG is the clear hegemon of the competition. It is rare that it has failed to win the league or the cup, but it is not very common. And it’s understandable. Nobody can compete with the Parisian team from a financial point of view.

But that could change. Olympique Lyon has a new owner, the American businessman John Textor, who would like to bring trophies back to Lyon. The famous French club won its last title in 2008.

“I don’t like models like PSG. Of course they have a great team, great athletes, we all like to watch them. But in a few years we want to compete with them. We want to win titles. We are going to spend. We can have as much finance as the Emir of Qatar,” Goal quotes Textor as saying.

Textor bought Olympique Lyon for a sum of $800 million. The sum includes the purchase of the stadium or the women’s team, which has won the Champions League in six of the last seven seasons.

Lyon should have the funds for the transfers this summer, so an interesting season can be expected. In addition, we can also expect to see further improvements from Marseille, another traditional team that has performed very well in recent months.
