Austria is not doing badly at all under Rangnick! This is how Mbappé averted a shocking defeat
Ralf Rangnick has not been able to resurrect Manchester United as interim coach, but the takeover of the Austrian national team has been successful so far. Three games against three top opponents are proof of that. On Friday, our neighbours took on the reigning world champions, a shock defeat that Kylian Mbappé had to fend off.

A great start to a new engagement. The balance of one win, one draw and one loss is not great, but considering the opponents, it is certainly not a bad card.
Ralf Rangnick and the Austrian national team managed to defeat Croatia 3:0 at the very beginning, then after a good performance they were not enough for Denmark, who managed to defeat France 1:2.
And it was against France that the Austrians played their third match under the former Manchester United coach. They did not perform as well as they did against the Danes or the Croats, but a draw against the reigning world champions? That just counts.
France, after all, is still one of the best national teams on the planet, given the stars at their disposal. A shock loss to Austria had to be averted by the famous Kylian Mbappé.
Rangnick’s side got on the board in the first half, with Andreas Weimann making his first career appearance in a national team jersey in the 37th minute.
Mbappé did not appear on the pitch until the 63rd minute, replacing Antoine Griezmann. Until then, he had only sat on the bench. However, once he came on, he caused the Austrian defence a lot of problems.
In the 83rd minute, after a great pass from Christopher Nkunku, he headed the ball into the top left corner with his weak foot. A great shot. However, he threw away another great chance when he was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Patrick Pentz, whose shot went just wide of the post.
France are now fourth in their Nations League group with two points. The first group in the A League is led by Denmark (6 points), followed by Austria (4 points), Croatia (4 points) and Didier Deschamps’ selection.
