The Polish pioneer of women’s MMA in the UFC is retiring. Jedrzejczyk received a well-deserved ovation, what are her plans?

One of the most anticipated fights of UFC 275? A rematch of the best women’s fight in MMA history. Joanna Jedrzejczyk is back in action after two years to try to conquer the throne of her weight class one more time. Her opponent once again was Weili Zhang. Unfortunately, the Polish fighter fell, announcing the end of her career after the loss. The UFC says goodbye to a great woman.

We’ve been waiting over two years for her return. Joanna Jedrzejczyk took a long break after her last fight with Weili Zhang, which she lost on points. During that time she enjoyed life, tried new things and started new paths in life.

Recently, however, she declared that she would still like to speak to the UFC strawweight carousel and work her way to a title shot once more. A rematch with the Chinese fighter was just going to serve as a stepping stone. A win would have put her right in line for a title shot, but she didn’t get it.

So instead of one last title shot, Jedrzejczyk put her gloves on the octagon floor right after the cage match and announced that she was ending her very rich and undoubtedly great career.

The UFC is losing one of the biggest icons in women’s MMA in the Polish fighter. Still only 34 years old, the beauty was one of the pioneers of women’s fighting in the UFC, especially her start in the best MMA organization was most impressive.

She needed two fights in the UFC to make her way to the title, the third was already a title fight. She subsequently defended the title five times, a record in her weight division, as well as a streak of 8 wins in a row. Maybe both records will be broken in time, yet no one will take away what she accomplished.

“It’s been 20 years since I’ve been involved in combat sports. I’m turning 35 this year. I want to be a mom, I want to be a businesswoman,” she hinted at her plans in the cage after her loss. Besides, she noted that she would definitely like to stay with combat sports.

After announcing the end of her career, Jedrzejczyk received a well-deserved ovation. Even UFC stars on social media expressed their feelings. Dustin Poirier, for example, and champions of their divisions Kamaru Usman, Charles Oliveira and Alexander Volkanovski paid tribute to her.
