It’s over. Marcelo’s career at Real Madrid has just come to an end. One of the most popular footballers in the world, thanks to his constant smiles and good humour, is ending his stage at the royal club as the player with the most titles in history.
Sixteen years. That’s how long Marcelo wore the white jersey of Real Madrid. The hairy left-back gave joy to the fans not only with his constant positive mood, but above all with his performances.
His technique was at a brilliant level, soft centres often found Real’s attackers, the Brazilian footballer’s dribbling was incredible to watch. According to many, he surpassed Roberto Carlos and is the best left back in history.
Logically, he thus deserves a big thank you and a send-off worthy of a great legend. The latter was prepared for him at Ciudad Real Madrid on Monday afternoon.
“Today we thank our captain, one of our greatest legends. The player with the most titles in the history of Real Madrid. Dear Marcelo, you are the best left back in the history of Real Madrid and of football, ” Florentino Pérez began his speech.
“Real Madrid will always be your home, thank you for everything you have done for us. The fans will always carry you in their hearts. We are proud of you,” continued the Los Blancos president.
“I want to thank the club, all my teammates, all the coaches and also all the staff. They do the black work that nobody sees but is very important for us. You know how much I appreciate you,” Marcelo opened his parting words.
“I thank my family, my wife Clarice, without whom I would not be the man I am. I’m grateful that my sons saw their dad play for the best club in the world,” the captain said in tears.
Saying goodbye to the club of his heart was extremely difficult for Marcel. He had to interrupt his speech several times because of the tears that kept coming to his eyes.
“I played for the best club in the world. I arrived as an 18-year-old boy and I’m leaving as a man. I’m eternally grateful for everything I’ve experienced here. I am very proud to leave as the player with the most titles,” Marcelo continued in tears.
He also did not forget Raúl González, the Real Madrid icon who helped Marcelo in his early days in Madrid.
“I would like to thank someone I call ‘Capi’. Raúl, thank you for everything you’ve done for me. When I arrived as a boy and had my first child, I didn’t really know what to do. But you’ve been a huge help to our family, giving me advice not only on the field, but in life. I never told you this, but I will be eternally grateful to you for that,” Marcelo spoke to the Real icon who was present in the hall.
And Raúl was so moved by his younger partner’s words that tears came to his eyes.
“This is not goodbye because I feel I am not leaving Real Madrid. I will be back one day,” Marcelo said.
