The Bellator boss questioned Prochazka’s qualities after coming to the UFC. We don’t need him, he claimed
When Jiri Prochazka signed a contract in the UFC, many believed in him, but there were also those who didn’t. One of them was Scott Coker, the head of Bellator, the second most prestigious organization in the world. But his words did not come true, and grossly so. What did he say?
When Jiri Prochazka signed a contract in the UFC, many believed in him, but there were also those who didn’t. One of them was Scott Coker, the head of Bellator, the second most prestigious organization in the world. But his words did not come true, and grossly so. What did he say?
In January 2020, it was decided that Jiri Prochazka would fight in the UFC. The Rizin champion decided to accept the big offer and go for his dream of being a UFC champion.
However, the president of rival Bellator, Scott Coker, didn’t have much faith in him. According to him, there were stronger fighters in his organization and Bellator didn’t need him.
“I wish Jiri the best, he’s a really good fighter. But in my opinion, we have a really strong welterweight division in Bellator and I don’t think he could handle our guys.
There’s Phil Davis, Ryan Bader or Gegard Musasi who can fight at 205 pounds. I think he’s going to have to work really hard in America and he’s not going to make much of a name for himself here.
We did Rizin a favor when we were asked about him and we said we didn’t need him. Jiri has expressed his desire to fight in the UFC and I believe a fighter should follow his dream,” he told The Scrap.
Why did he utter those words? Quite possibly because Prochazka hasn’t decided to join his organization. Either way, though, the respected pundit missed the mark.
As everyone already knows, Prochazka is now the UFC welterweight champion and no one doubts his qualities. And quite possibly neither does Coker.
