Armenia battled to the penultimate round of World Cup qualification to reach the barrier, with Macedonia ultimately being more successful. After a good start, they suffered from a poor second half of the qualification, in which they only gained two points out of a possible 15.
Ireland, on the other hand, were downright disappointing in qualifying, failing to keep up with Serbia and Portugal and gaining only nine points. The current generation does not appear to be very strong, with promising youngsters gradually joining the A-team.
Midfielder Henrik Mkhitaryan, with experience from Dortmund, Manchester United, Arsenal and AS Roma, is the home side’s biggest mainstay. Striker Sargis Adamyan spent this season in Bruges, where he scored seven goals and assisted once.
In a West Bromwich jersey, it was Callum Robinson who scored eight times and assisted nine. At Burnley, talented central defender Nathan Collins has earned a firm place, even being nominated for the Premier League’s best player for April.
Although Armenian football has been going up in recent years, the past four games have not ended well, specifically with an overall score of 2: 18.
Ireland, on the other hand, are seven games without a loss. During this time span, it has drawn with both Portugal and Belgium, so some progress is definitely evident.
Considering the Irish progression over the last year, I think they will win.
