The BBC accidentally posted a caption during a live broadcast saying “Manchester United is rubbish”
Everyone has a dumbass day sometimes, but it can be a consolation that at least not many people know about it. That’s not the case for a BBC TV intern who was trying out the ins and outs of typing in a news bulletin board.
Everyone has a dumbass day sometimes, but it can be a consolation that at least not many people know about it. That’s not the case for a BBC TV intern who was trying out the ins and outs of typing in a news bulletin board. “Manchester United is rubbish”.
The text “Manchester United is rubbish” appeared on the BBC’s news ticker during a tennis update just after 9.30am on Tuesday morning. It was one of a number of headlines on the information panel that appeared in quick succession. However, it was this one that caused a big reaction around the world.
Later in the morning, BBC television presenter Annita Mcveigh apologised to any Manchester United fans who may have been offended. She said that the mistake was made when someone was learning to control typing in the information panel and was typing random things.
One of the other messages that appeared in quick succession on the TV screen was simply “It’s raining everywhere”.
Mcveigh told viewers
“Let me explain what was going on. Behind the scenes, someone was training to learn how to use the bar and put text in it, so they were just typing random things that weren’t serious, and the comment appeared. So sorry if you saw that and were offended and you’re a Manchester United fan. But surely it was a mistake and it shouldn’t have appeared on the screen.”
