Bale, Suárez, Gomez: Who could Newcastle bring in the transfer window?
Newcastle United will slowly but surely become the next big player on the Premier League transfer market. The initial reinforcements have already come in the winter, but the big one is yet to come. And some big names could be heading to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United will slowly but surely become the next big player on the Premier League transfer market. The initial reinforcements have already come in the winter, but the big one is yet to come. And some big names could be heading to St James’ Park.
Gareth Bale
We start with the very first big name. Bale is out of contract at Real Madrid and will be a free agent from the summer. If Wales qualify for the World Cup in November, Bale will be looking for a team that can guarantee him a busy pre-Championship schedule.
While a lot of clubs will have problems with his big salary, thanks to the wealthy owners, Newcastle don’t have to deal with this at all. So a big name like that could come in handy.
Joe Gomez
Liverpool defender who used to form a reliable with Van Dijk, but then was stopped by a complicated injury. Currently, both Ibrahima Konaté and Joel Matip have leapfrogged him in the pecking order and Gomez is getting virtually no game time.
Steven Gerrard is very interested in Gomez and would love to bring him to Aston Villa, so Newcastle would have to work very quickly. But the 24-year-old quality stopper would certainly come in handy for the Magpies.
Luis Suárez
Huge experience and another name that would bring the club and marketing attention. Suárez has already parted ways with Atlético Madrid and will become a free agent at 35. He has countless offers, one of which could come from Newcastle.
Suárez has Premier League experience and still has undeniable quality. Thus, the Magpies would not risk much by signing him on a one-year deal.
Dean Henderson
Henderson was previously thought to be a future number one for the England national team, where he has also worked his way up to. He even pushed David De Gea out of the Manchester United goal for a while, but the Spanish goalkeeper took his place back.
as a result, the 25-year-old goalkeeper has sat on the bench all season and will be looking to move away in the summer. Newcastle’s number one, Martin Dúbravka, has struggled a lot with injury and so signing a quality goalkeeper seems very likely.
Conor Coady
Coady is often off the radar of the media and attention, but he is a very high quality stopper. It’s not for nothing that Gareth Southgate is counting on him in the England squad. His leadership skills are extremely valuable and he would be a big boost against the current Newcastle defence.
the 29-year-old defender has dragged Wolves to eighth place in the Premier League, and at St James’ Park he could command a much bigger salary and prospectively fight for the Top Six in the future.
