Manchester City won the league title on Sunday, but it was a nervous affair. It was even 0:2 down to Aston Villa, but they managed to turn the game around and celebrate the trophy. And the Citizens took inspiration from Real Madrid, who turned the Champions League semi-final around like that.

The Premier League final was worth it again. Manchester City had a one-point lead and hosted Aston Villa at home, while Liverpool took on Wolverhampton at home. The Reds were already 0:1 down in the second minute, but soon enough they equalised at 1:1.

The Citizens were still tied 0:0, but thanks to Liverpool’s draw, they remained in the lead at that point. This was even though they started to lose, as at that point both teams had the same points and City had the better record.

In fact, Aston Villa went into the lead, which was further increased to 2: 0 by former Liverpool player Coutinho. At that moment, CItizens were still the champions, but if Liverpool had scored one goal, they would have been the league winners.

And they couldn’t allow that at the Etihad Stadium. In fact, the home side netted three goals in the space of five minutes and heroically turned the game around. Gündogan scored twice and Rodri added one.

Finally, they were on the right side of the turnaround. A few weeks ago, in the Champions League semi-final, they were still leading 5-3 at Real Madrid in the 90th minute, but lost the lead within two minutes, scored another goal at the start of the set-up and were eliminated before the final gate.

“I called Real Madrid and they gave me good advice,” Pep Guardiola joked after the game. “What happened in Madrid had no explanation and today it has no explanation. It’s just momentum. Sometimes it’s nice to experience these situations. It will help us be stronger next season,” the Spanish coach added.
