Changes at Real Madrid: Who will leave the Santiago Bernabéu and who will come?
The season is slowly coming to an end and logically the roster for next season is starting to be put together. Real Madrid have had a fantastic season, winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League final, but there will be a few changes in the squad. What will they be?
The season is slowly coming to an end and logically the roster for next season is starting to be put together. Real Madrid have had a fantastic season, winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League final, but there will be a few changes in the squad. What will they be?
A comfortable double-digit lead in the league, a title celebrated by Real Madrid a month early. On top of that, a Spanish Super Cup win and the main thing, the Champions League final, where Los Blancos have reached after three amazing turnarounds with PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City. Only a win against Liverpool separates Real from a perfect season.
At the same time, however, the squad for next season is starting to be put together in the Valdebebas offices. Which players will no longer be part of it and which will take their place?
Departures
Gareth Bale – 100 %
A club icon who has set not only the fans against him, but also the entire club management. In the last year of his contract, Bale just wanted to collect money and do nothing. Whenever Ancelotti wanted to put him in the lineup, Welsh mysteriously started to be troubled by an unknown injury, although he trained all week without any problem. Bale is out of contract in the summer and Real Madrid will be extremely happy to be rid of the huge salary, and his indiscipline.
Isco – 99%
Another player who has been there for all the success of the last generation. He has played a very important role in all 4 Champions League titles, but in the last two seasons his performances have started to decline in a huge way, as well as his game time. The 30 year old midfielder is also out of contract in June and will not be extended. By all accounts, he is closest to leaving for Betis.
Eden Hazard – 90 %
Few can imagine Hazard’s continuation at Real Madrid. This transfer has just been an absolute dud, it’s time to end the mutual misery and wish Hazard to kick-start his career again elsewhere.
The Belgian footballer has been plagued by frequent injuries in Madrid, which have not allowed him to fully flourish. He still has two years left on his contract, but Real Madrid are keen to sell him.
Luka Jovic – 90 %
From the club’s point of view, it’s a no-brainer, Jovic has to go. He has absolutely not caught on at Madrid, giving the impression that he doesn’t really care. When he was given his chance against Atlético Madrid on Sunday, he walked off the game and notched just 12 assists. The question is whether anyone will be interested in him and whether Jovic himself will want to leave the Bernabéu, as he can continue to receive the royal salary until 2025.
Marcelo – 70%
Before the season started and during the season, a scenario was agreed upon. Marcelo will finish his last season at Real Madrid as (non-playing) captain and then either retire or go home to Brazil.
But his positive influence, experience and contribution to the club is so great that after winning the title, the management reportedly started to consider extending Marcelo’s contract for another year.
Jesús Vallejo – 50 %
As a fourth stopper, he spent practically the whole season on the bench, only hitting the field for 7 minutes, but now is his chance to prove himself. He put in a decent performance against Espanyol in the title game, he helped Real in the turnaround against the Citizens, winning 5 headers in 8 minutes on the pitch, he also put in a nice performance in the derby against Atlético.
But the arrival of new stopper Antonio Rüdiger will probably put him in the column of unnecessary. However, in the event of Marcelo leaving and Alaba moving to left-back, he could remain in the squad as a fourth stopper.
Arrivals
Antonio Rüdiger – 99 %
According to behind-the-scenes information, a transfer that is already done and will only become official after the end of the season. Real Madrid wanted to strengthen the defensive line and so in comes the burly Rüdiger, who has developed into one of the Premier League’s best stoppers at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel. His contract expires in June, so Los Blancos will get him for free.
Kylian Mbappé – 90 %
Does anyone still doubt that Mbappé will come to Real Madrid? Apparently, the French speedster will become the new face of the royal club for the next few years. Florentino Pérez has been preparing for his arrival for the past two years, saving up to meet Mbappé’s wage demands. And the best part of it all is that his contract is up, so Real won’t have to pay PSG a single euro.
Fran García – 60%
A bit of a surprising name, not so much talked about In the event of Marcelo leaving, Real would need a replacement left-back and that would be Rayo Vallecano’s Fran García. The Los Blancos alumnus is twisting his second season in the southern part of Madrid and there is nothing but praise for his performances. The 22-year-old left-back stands out for his speed and the Merengues still have buy-back rights on him, so he would come very cheap.
Aurélien Tchouaméni – 30 %
A month or so ago, his arrival would have been given around 60-70%. But Dani Ceballos has come into great form and deserves more minutes next season. Likewise, Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga have proven they can take on leadership roles. The centre of midfield is so packed at Real right now and it doesn’t look like Tchouaméni’s arrival.
