Video: Huge blunder! Watch how goalkeeper Steffen gifted Liverpool a goal in the FA Cup semi-final
Saturday’s FA Cup match between Manchester City and Liverpool drew a lot of attention. Two extremely strong sides were pitted against each other in the semi-final of the cup, and so it was expected that little things would decide the duel. However, this was not the case with Mané’s goal, which was given to him like a gift on a platter by goalkeeper Steffen.
Saturday’s FA Cup match between Manchester City and Liverpool drew a lot of attention. Two extremely strong sides were pitted against each other in the semi-final of the cup, and so it was expected that little things would decide the duel. However, this was not the case with the goal Mané scored, which was given to him like a gift on a platter by goalkeeper Steffen.
Even though this was a match in the late stages of the domestic cup, players who don’t get on the pitch regularly were given chances on both sides. Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen was one of them, but he won’t remember the match in the best of terms.
This was due to a 17th minute situation where he literally gifted the opposition a goal. After a back pass, he was too late with his cross and at the crucial moment the ball got tangled under his feet. Mané took advantage of this and scored a rather cheap goal thanks to his acumen.
Liverpool were 2-0 up in the 17th minute, which shook the home side Manchester City. In the opening act Liverpool dominated and shortly before going into the dressing room they increased the score to 3: 0 when Sadio Mané scored for the second time.
Manchester City was already down by three goals after the first half, which is something they are not used to. The last time the English club had such a bad start was in April 2018 in a Champions League playoff match.
Coincidentally, its opponent was also Liverpool. Whether this particular situation will somehow shake up the future fate of Zack Steffen is a matter of days to come.
Unfortunately for him, however, it happened in a very important match at a moment when he is fighting for his next minutes. City’s current number one Ederson doesn’t let him in the goal much.
