Tuchel: We scored 5 goals and lost 2:4. It’s very hard to play on this field, it doesn’t play in our favor

Chelsea lost 2:4 to Arsenal on Wednesday, taking an unexpected blow at home. The home coach Thomas Tuchel felt that the players made their own mistakes. And he was also unhappy with the turf at Stamford Bridge.

Nketiah opened the scoring in the 13th minute and Werner equalised four minutes later. Smith-Rowe gave Arsenal the lead back in the 27th minute, only for Azpilicueta to equalise again five minutes later.

In the second half, however, it was all the visitors, with Nketiah sending the Gunners into the lead with a second goal in the 57th minute, and Saka adding an insurance goal from a penalty in the 92nd minute.

“We scored five goals and lost 2:4. We scored three own goals and two valid goals. I can’t remember such mistakes by the opponents in our favour. We don’t score goals like that, we just get them in consecutive games,” Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel fumed in a post-match interview.

Andreas Christensen had a very bad game. He had a strange bounce of the ball before the first goal, a mistake blamed on the pitch by the German coach.

“It is very difficult to play here on this pitch. It may sound like an excuse, but it’s a very difficult pitch. It’s not playing in our favour,” complained Tuchel.

“The ball bounces very strangely in front of Andreas when he wants to play it. We made the same mistake against Real Madrid and it cost us another round of the Champions League, this cost us the game,” the German strategist was angry.

From a table perspective, however, Chelsea may not be so sorry about the loss. It still has five points and a game to play against fourth-placed Tottenham. The Top 4 position guaranteeing the Champions League is not in danger.
