One hundred thousand for the player was a transfer fee, Rogoz explained the alleged bribe to the police. But his transfer never happened

Roman Rogoz, one of the main figures in the football corruption scandal, has broken his silence after a long time. After a series of apologies, he finally appeared before the police and gave an explanation. According to his version, he did not offer the Vltavín player a bribe, but it was a reward for the transfer. The problem is that this player never transferred to Vyšehrad.

On 29 May 2019, a closely watched match was played in the third Czech league. The teams of Vltavín and Vyšehrad competed for promotion. It was a very important duel in the fight for promotion, Vltavín was two points behind the leading Vyšehrad and needed to win unconditionally.

But Roman Rogoz, according to Seznam news, had other plans. Before the match, he met with a trio of referees, and he was supposed to promise the main referee Jan Cihlář a promotion on the referee’s list. Cihlář would now be able to officiate the first and second league matches.

In addition, Rogoz was to go to the players of the opponents from Vltavín and influence them to give a bad performance. Vyšehrad eventually won 2: 0 and Vltavín coach Frýdek did not hide his disappointment with his team’s performance.

Two days after the match, according to the police file, Rogoz met Martin Uvira, the captain of Vltavín. On the wiretap, the rustling of banknotes can be heard and Uvira asks Rogoz to count the amount. According to Seznam news, it was supposed to be a bribe of 100,000 crowns. Moreover, the two actors were also supposed to meet on 10 July, when Rogoz was supposed to hand over another larger sum of money to Uvira.

And how did the main actor Roman Rogoz himself explain these meetings with Uvira? According to his testimony, the first meeting was not a bribe, but a reward for Uvira’s transfer to Vyšehrad. At the second meeting Rogoz refused to hand over the money, saying he had no idea what money Uvira was counting.

However, this version clashes with the claims of both clubs, especially the one from Vyšehrad. According to Jaroslav Klíma, the club’s owner, Vyšehrad never worked on Uvíra’s transfer. Moreover, he stated that he himself would definitely not agree to such a transfer.

Klímá also disputes that the transfer involved club money. “What is absolutely certain is that as far as the money is concerned, he definitely did not get it from me or from Vyšehrad,” he said, according to Seznam news.

However, one question remains to be resolved and that is why Rogoz did not demand Uvir to return the money if the transfer did not happen. Uvira eventually transferred to Zbuzany. Here Rogoz allegedly owed the club owner some money, so they agreed to set off their mutual obligations.

However, the actual transfer took place after more than a year, which reduces the credibility of Rogoz’s claim. However, everything remains for the police to investigate.
